Touhid Urges US Senator to Portray Bangladesh Accurately to fight Disinformation
In a recent diplomatic briefing held at Dhaka’s State Guest House Padma, Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain addressed concerns regarding disinformation campaigns targeting Bangladesh, particularly those propagated by certain Indian media outlets. He emphasized that these narratives falsely depict widespread oppression of minorities in Bangladesh, which he categorically dismissed as unfounded propaganda.
Hossain acknowledged that while isolated incidents of violence against minorities have occurred, they are not indicative of the nation’s overall commitment to communal harmony. He reassured the diplomatic community of the interim government’s dedication to maintaining this harmony and its readiness to take decisive action against any attempts to disrupt it.
Highlighting the detrimental role of certain Indian media outlets, Hossain noted that these platforms are engaged in spreading false narratives about Bangladesh. He stressed that such actions are not conducive to fostering normal relations between the two countries.
Furthermore, Hossain pointed out that these media outlets are attempting to portray Bangladesh as a militant state to the international community, a move he described as highly unjust. He urged for a more responsible and fact-based approach to reporting, emphasizing the need for the media to play a constructive role in strengthening bilateral relations.
In light of these challenges, Hossain called upon the international community to recognize and support Bangladesh’s efforts in combating disinformation. He underscored the importance of presenting an accurate portrayal of Bangladesh’s societal dynamics to counteract the negative impact of such misleading campaigns.
